My family has a thing – when we start getting stressed out about something, someone will yell, “Adventure!” and then we all follow suit. It started on a family vacation a few years ago and has been super helpful to break the tension when we start to feel it building.
Sometimes genealogy is like that. It can cause plenty of tension. But it’s great fun at the same time. So this blog is my reminder that the “adventure” of genealogy should not get lost in the tension of hidden ancestors. Or the tediousness of source citations. Because I intend to enjoy the journey!
My name is Janell Vasquez. I’m a lazy genealogist. I hate admitting that, but it’s freeing at the same time. I’ve been involved in genealogy on and off, mostly off, for almost 20 years now. My ancestors are like the shoemaker’s kids without shoes – I work for FamilySearch, helping facilitate the masses in their genealogy quests, but I can’t seem to find enough time to focus on my own ancestors. But my brother recently got involved in doing genealogy, which helped me get just jealous enough about all the fun that he was having that I had to start up again. Plus he gives me all the tough – aka fun – problems to solve. So that helps too.
This blog will be part family documentation, part education. I hope it’s helpful to whoever might stumble upon it in the future. Because as we know, stumbling is the way you always find the cool stuff. Enjoy. If you’re not 100% satisfied, you’re entitled to a full refund.
